Public Relations #Goals

By Alison Krakowiak

When I picture my life five years from now killing it in the public relations world, I see very important people and fabulous office spaces with good views and really cool chairs.

But why wait five years?

Last week, I found myself at the top of the Crain Communications building, a high-rise on Michigan Avenue, looking out at Lake Michigan and the city of Chicago through floor-to-ceiling windows in a conference room with marble tables and really nice chairs (#Goals). Fashion Recap: Shannelle Armstrong-Fowler

By Lauren Black

This past Wednesday, I had the pleasure of listening to Shannelle Armstrong-Fowler speak about her career in public relations. She is the founder of Haute & Co. Bridal Boutique and has worked in public relations for 15 years. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time. Shannelle was able to mix her outgoing, witty personality with valuable information about public relations. Continue reading “Fashion Recap: Shannelle Armstrong-Fowler”

Walker Sands Agency Tour

Friday morning on September 18 Loyola’s PRSSA Chapter had the pleasure of going to Walker Sands.  The PR powerhouse is conveniently located off of the Monroe stop on the red line.  Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was the design of the office.  There is a ton of open space, lounge areas for collaborating, and all of the desks are open and connected.  With ceiling to floor windows I was delighted to not see a single stuffy grey cubicle in sight.  President, Mike Santoro greeted us all and shared with us the agency’s philosophy of integrating PR, social, and search optimization to create brand awareness and generate new leads.  He closed his discussion with Walker Sands’ values: learn, support, and do. It’s pretty common for suburban kids to commute to their college if they are staying within the same state. For example, my sister attended UIC and made the hour and a half commute there and back every day. I followed in her footsteps and commuted as well, but to Loyola University (which I know is a significant difference in time and distance but it still sucked). My sophomore year, I pushed for my dad to let me stay on campus and that second year taught me so much. Here are a few things I wish I would’ve known before my freshman year. Your Daily Dose of PR News

If you haven’t realized it yet, working in public relations is a 24/7 profession, whether you are in or out of the office. As an aspiring PR professional and current student, my mornings in bed consist of scrolling through endless pages of local and worldly news. For a while, I struggled with how to find the right articles with the right content that interests me and that I consider newsworthy. After much research, and trial and error, here are my top three resources (in order from greatest to least) for staying current with news. Continue reading “Your Daily Dose of PR News”

Landing the Internship

If your future plans include doing something in public relations, you will definitely need some experience before starting your career. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert in landing internships (I’ve gone through my fair share of rejections), but I have a handful of experience on my back. Today, I’m sharing with you my tips and tricks on landing the internship. Continue reading “Landing the Internship”

As young professionals we are expected to talk the talk and walk the walk. We are challenged to be skilled communicators, sociable networkers and to exhibit professionalism at all times.
